Frameblending flipbook textures. Problem.

Postby sjuskadur » Tue May 29, 2018 2:19 pm

Hey guys! I am having a frustrating issue I cant seem to figurehttp://amplify.pt/forum/viewforum.php?f=23 out. I am making a material with a 4x4 flipbook, and instead of jumping between frames, I am trying to set it up so it lerps between them. To do that I have set up 2 flipbooks with the same material that are out of phase and then I am using a cosine to lerp smoothly between the frames.

Accordying to my calculations, this should be working, but for some reason the shift between frames falls out of phase after a few seconds, and I cant figure out why. (you can see it working for a little bit then it wonks out)
Can any of you quickly see what is wrong?! or am I misunderstanding how the speed node in the flipbook works?

Video of how the shader (not)working - https://imgur.com/0akIWnL (you can see it in the correct phase for a little bit in the middle of the video.

Essentially I am trying to make a super simplified version of this: http://www.klemenlozar.com/frame-blending-with-motion-vectors/

Thanks!

Hello, thank you for getting in touch!

It can be a bit tricky to get the timings down for the type of effect you're trying to create, I would suggest creating the logic for the timer you intend to use with the Flipbook node in a C# script for better control over the animation.

Nevertheless, the following modification to your setup seems to produce good results:

Thank you so much! I ended up figuring this out 10 mins ago.
Since I am an artist I definitely dont have the knowledge to do this in code X)

but here is what I ended up making along with the demo result.

I am currently turning this into a material function. I am making very slow space effects that need high resolution, so this will allow me to have 4x4 spritesheets that slowly fade between frames with some other effects on top.
