Grey Goo

I'm not fully versed in the terminology, but I notice this rather shiny goo on my trees at certain angles. Obviously the light is playing tricks with the imposter (this doesn't happen with original model)

Any thoughts about minimising this or completely removing it?

What type of impostor is it?
Does adjusting the Texture Bias or Clip value of the impostor material help at all?
Can you share a sample?
